About Us
"A Unique Opportunity"
River Road Fall Color
The small acreages that we own were subdivided from a larger 365 acre parcel of land in the late 1980's by a developer
called Woodland Farms. The land along the west bank of the Kickapoo River from County "C" to Longmire Road was
divided into 48 lots of 2 to 15 acres each. The lots, in most cases, extend from the west bank of the Kickapoo River to near
the top of the ridge that runs north and south, just west of River Road. Some owners share an Out Lot that provides their
river front access. By dividing the land in this manner, each of us has invested in a very diverse eco-system. From mature
hardwood forests containing red oak, maple, poplar, and walnut - to open prairie areas - to marshland with year-round
flowing springs, ponds, a small lake - and of course, the Kickapoo River - we have it all. I believe that a thoughtful plan to
help maintain this woodland is worth a discussion between neighbors.

In the past several years, some residents have discussed the possibility of organizing restoration projects for the forest,
prairies, and wetlands along River Road. Because of the topography of the area, most building sites for these lots are
situated fairly close to River Road. Much of the land east of the road is in the river flood plain, and west of the road the
wooded ridge is too steep for buildings and driveways. Because of the close proximity of cabins to River Road, relatively
large areas of woods, prairie, and wetlands are available for all to enjoy. Even if from a distance.

Laura and Steve Cross have already been looking into wetland restoration information and resources. Sam and Nadine
Gratz have done the same for prairie restoration projects. I have done some Internet searches and found national, state,
local, and non-profit sources of information in regard to managing healthy forests. Some of the information I have found
refers to funding $ource$ for prairie, wetland and forest restoration projects. The appropriate sections on this web site will
include information regarding restoration in the very near future.

In the near future, LaNah and I will be contacting each land owner on River Road to introduce ourselves and to get your
input to the proposals listed on this web site. We look forward to meeting with each neighbor.

Regards,

Mike and LaNah Wheeler
